Krog District Coming Attractions

Krog District will get three new restaurants over the coming months.

Local favorite Tyde Tate Thai Kitchen will open a third location at Krog Street Market in October, taking over the original Recess space. To clarify, the current location of Recess is NOT closing. Tyde Tate includes locations in South Downtown and at Chattahoochee Food Works.

A location of LA-based sandwich shop Eggslut will open next spring beside Woof Gang at SPX Alley on the Eastside Beltline.

A location of Nando’s Peri-Peri Chicken will take over the former Bar Mercado space at Krog Street Market next spring. Nando’s already includes two Metro Atlanta locations in Dunwoody and Peachtree Corners.

Restaurant Opening

A little birdie tells us that Buddy Buddy will open on Thursday, Oct. 2, at Midtown Promenade. Veteran Atlanta bartender Nick Chaivarlis will open Buddy Buddy in the former Tapa Tapa space, where people can expect martinis served three ways, along with other classic and original cocktails. The menu features Greek street food and homestyle dishes Chaivarlis grew up eating, including avgolemono (lemon chicken soup), yemista (stuffed peppers), and a roast lamb entree. Stay tuned to Instagram for updates. Read more about Buddy Buddy here

Progress Report

After some permitting delays, it appears Spring chef Brian So’s new Marietta Korean restaurant, Spring 2nd Branch, is back on track to open by the end of October. Spring 2nd Branch is one of Rough Draft’s most anticipated fall openings. Read more about So’s plans for the new restaurant here.

News to Know

Tonight, we will learn whether any Atlanta or Georgia restaurants make the inaugural 50 Best Restaurants in North America list.

The British-based organization behind “50 Best” will hold a ceremony announcing this year’s North American winners at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, starting at 8 p.m. PDT (11 p.m. ET). Restaurants from the United States, Canada, and parts of the Caribbean make up the North American list. (50 Best already features a list for Latin America.)

Winners were voted on by 300 anonymous restaurant industry peers and experts from around North America, split into sub-regions led by a chairperson. According to 50 Best, restaurants do not pay to enter or need to be a specific type of restaurant or meet specific criteria to be considered for the lists.

Will any Georgia restaurants make the cut this year? Tune in to the live stream here at 11 p.m. tonight, or check back tomorrow morning for the full list of 50 Best North American restaurants.
