Making space for what matters
Oct. 29 — Art doesn’t just document a city’s evolution. It shapes it. In this edition of Sketchbook, we look at artists building creative legacies on their own terms.
In Old Fourth Ward, designer and illustrator Sean Fahie turns nostalgia into narrative with The Retired Rappers Association, a playful merchandise drop that doubles as his love letter to hip-hop. The collection launch is part of a recent creative sprint for Fahie that spans key art for Oakland Cemetery, a new group show, and the kind of prolific output that defines his practice.
In Castleberry Hill, artist and curator Diana Ries Sheldon is working to preserve what makes her neighborhood magnetic. As chair of this year’s Castleberry Loft Tour & Wine Tasting, she helped raise a record $15,000 while advocating for artists to remain visible amid downtown’s rapid development. Her work, both as maker and organizer, helps keep the community’s creative pulse steady.
Legacy isn’t abstract. It’s built through consistent work, community investment, and staying visible when it counts.
Keep showing up.

Sean Fahie finds rhythm in reinvention
✏️ For Atlanta designer, illustrator, and author Sean Fahie, October has been one long verse – a month of motion that includes fresh design projects and a new merch capsule drop called The Retired Rappers Association. Through humor and heart, Fahie reminds us that creativity, like rhythm, is a practice of staying in motion.

From Castleberry Hill with love
🪞 Inside her Machine Shop Lofts home, Diana Ries Sheldon’s beaded and bedazzled mannequins scatter light across the room, reflections of an artist attuned to the moment. As Castleberry Hill faces new waves of development, she’s rallying neighbors and fellow creatives to protect the district’s pulse. Her work, both sculptural and civic, asks what it means to evolve without losing rhythm.
