Rough Draft Atlanta will present candidate forums leading up to the Sandy Springs mayoral and District 4 council runoff elections on Nov. 20.

Sandy Springs voters are encouraged to participate by submitting questions by email and registering to watch the forums live through Rough Draft’s Sandy Springs election page.

The Sandy Springs mayoral candidate forum will be on Thursday, Nov. 20, from 3 to 3:30 p.m., with Dontaye Carter facing Rusty Paul, the incumbent.

The runoff is a repeat of the 2021 election when Carter challenged Paul, but was defeated by a sizable margin.

Carter said his priorities include working families, first responders, and teachers while addressing everyday people’s real challenges.

Paul prioritized finishing projects such as City Springs Phase II. He also wants to get Sandy Springs at the forefront of artificial intelligence.

The District 4 city council race candidate forum will begin at 3:40 p.m. and end at 4 p.m. Frank Roberts and Michelle Sullivan will answer questions from panelists and voters.

Roberts served as a law enforcement officer for more than 30 years with Atlanta and Sandy Springs. He listed as his priorities protecting neighborhoods and preventing the encroachment of non-residential uses in neighborhoods.

Sullivan has been an entrepreneur, business owner, and consultant in early childhood education. She said voters should have a voice in building their own neighborhoods, and made the choice to run for office to help maintain the quality of life in Sandy Springs.

Voters can watch the forums live. They will also be available to view on Rough Draft’s Sandy Springs election page.

The forum will be held days before advance voting begins. Voters will return to the polls for early voting from Saturday, Nov. 22, through Wednesday, Nov. 26. The runoff election day will be Dec. 2.

The Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections will open 14 early voting locations, including two in Sandy Springs:

  • North Fulton Annex, 7741 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs.
  • Sandy Springs Library, 395 Mount Vernon Hwy., Sandy Springs.

The polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 22, noon to 5 p.m. on Nov. 23, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 24 to 26.

Neither location will host an absentee ballot drop box. Other early voting locations can be found on the county’s website. During the advance voting period, Fulton County voters may cast their ballot at any of the locations. On election day, they must vote at their assigned voting precinct. Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 2.
