Tucker preps for summer
Friday, May 1 — It’s Katie and Cathy with the weekly Tucker roundup. We hope y’all are enjoying the brief reprieve from the stifling pre-summer heat, even though the cool air is surely an omen of rain to come. Katie is crossing her fingers that we’ll get some comfortable weather for the outdoor activities Tucker has planned this weekend while she relishes the lack of back sweat.
🎉 Tucker Day is tomorrow! If you see a tall, dark-haired person with bangs, big glasses, and a Rough Draft press pass taking photos of the morning’s parade, that’s Katie. Please come up and say hi!
P.S. Cathy apologizes for saying in last week’s newsletter that ARTucker was on May 2, when it was on April 25.
🗳 Early voting for non-partisan and primary races is currently underway, and the Tucker Civic Association is hosting a forum with the District 4 Board of Education candidates on May 7. Unless you’re planning to vote on May 19, make sure you find your early voting location and head to the polls before it ends on May 15.
🌼 The Parks and Rec department is hosting a clean-up at Johns Homestead Park this Sunday from 2-4 p.m. All ages are welcome!
🤞 Enjoy your (dry, we hope) weekend,
Katie and Cathy

Last chance for Shakespearean antics
🎭 Picture this: a major movie studio is in the throes of filming a Shakespeare adaptation when the set is crashed by characters from the play. Of course, hilarity ensues.
This is the plot of “Shakespeare in Hollywood,” the new play staged by Main Street Theatre in Tucker. During the filming of the 1935 real-life movie adaptation of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” King of the Fairies Oberon and his fairy servant Puck – characters from the play – mischievously interrupt.
“Shakespeare in Hollywood” runs through May 3 at the Tucker Rec Center with evening shows on Friday and Saturday and a matinee on Sunday. The show has some mild language and themes intended for teenage and adult audiences.

What’s it Worth?

Golfing for a good cause
⛳ To support its mission of feeding food-insecure neighbors in Tucker, NETWorks Cooperative Ministry will be hosting a fundraising golf tournament on May 11 at Heritage Golf Links.
NETWorks is a cooperative of churches throughout Northlake, Embry Hills, and Tucker meeting the food and financial needs of neighbors and partnering with them to find long-term solutions to poverty.
The golf tournament is beginner-friendly with a scramble format and mulligans available for purchase. All registrations include cart and green fees, access to the driving range, breakfast from Chick-fil-A, and lunch from Baldinos.
