Vote, vote, vote
Friday, May 8 — Katie and Cathy are back again with all things Tucker. Katie will be heading to the polls today to do her civic duty. Make sure you do the same before early voting ends next Friday or else you may be stuck in some longer Election Day lines (although it’s the primaries, so you’ll probably be fine).
Tucker’s big election is for the Board of Education District 4 seat. We have details from yesterday’s forum with the candidates, but first, some quick news:
💐 Mother’s Day is Sunday, and Tucker has a full weekend of Mom-friendly events ahead, plus the monthly Cruise In and a pollinator garden workshop.
🏫 The DeKalb County School District announced that it would be pausing the Student Assignment Project and shifting in a different direction after months of feedback and protests.
🎈Tucker Day last weekend was a success! If you missed it, check out the photos Katie took of the parade.
🎨 Mama Debbie’s Art Emporium is calling for artists to paint skateboard decks for the next gallery show. Interested artists can submit their designs and drafts to info@mdae.art by May 20.
🌼 Have a great weekend,
Katie and Cathy

Tucker Board of Education candidates talk SAP, superintendent
🗳️ The five candidates for the DeKalb County School District Board of Education District 4 seat met at Northlake Church of Christ on May 7 to discuss the superintendent, the Student Assignment Project, technology in schools, school choice, and other issues impacting the district ahead of Election Day on May 19.
Candidates Tracy Brisson, Alison Cundiff, Crew Heimer, Jamison Murphy, and Sonja Szubski met with constituents and answered questions during Thursday’s forum, hosted by the Tucker Civic Association.
The candidates were asked three questions by moderator Neal Stubblefield, the President of the Tucker Civic Association: two questions directed to each candidate, and one directed to the whole group.
🏫 Check out the candidates’ responses.

Quilts for a cause
🧵 Scraplanta, Atlanta’s creative reuse non-profit based in Tucker, will be unveiling two quilts made by dozens of local crafters to benefit the Refugee Women’s Network.
In March, Scraplanta put out a call to Instagram followers and newsletter subscribers for quilt blocks. People were invited to choose between four patterns, sew their own 12-inch by 12-inch blocks, and mail them to a Scraplanta store or drop them off in person.
Scraplanta will unveil the community quilts at a reception on May 15 at the Clarkston Community Center at noon. The event will serve as an opportunity for those who contributed to the quilt to connect with one another with a presentation of the quilts and light refreshments.
