Students from Tucker Middle School were among the Georgia state finalists for the Presidential AI Challenge Showcase, a nationwide initiative that seeks to inspire students and educators to create AI-based innovative solutions to community challenges.

Tucker Middle School students Kyren Cobb, Blake Russell, Jamir Washington, Endrias Jekamo, Prabal Basnet, and Ayden Levermore were among 25 state champions in Georgia, advancing to the regional competition for two projects utilizing AI to navigate historical records and manage diabetes.

A total of 42 projects from more than 100 students were submitted from across the country on three different tracks: Track I for in-depth proposals on how AI technology could be used to address a problem, Track II for built AI tools, and Track III for educator teams.

AI-Powered Community Property History Explorer, proposed by eighth-grade students Cobb, Russell, and Washington, addresses the challenge of inaccessible and challenging property and neighborhood historical records.

The projects transform public records into clear, narrative histories that residents could easily understand by utilizing optical character recognition, natural language processing, and generative AI to organize historical property data.

GlucoGuide, created by seventh-grade students Jekamo, Basnet, and Levermore, analyzes patterns in a user’s blood sugar levels, diet, and activity to provide personalized recommendations for managing diabetes. The app translates the data into actionable advice to reduce stress for those living with diabetes.

“Tucker Middle School’s students have demonstrated not only exceptional technical skill, but also the curiosity, creativity, and determination that define the future of innovation,” DeKalb County School District Interim Superintendent Dr. Norman C. Sauce III said in a press release. “Advancing to the finals of the Presidential AI Challenge Showcase is a remarkable achievement, and it reflects the strength of teaching and learning across our district.”

For being selected as state champions, the participating Tucker Middle teams will receive a Presidential Certificate of Achievement and Cloud Credits, access to web-based resources, and other items provided by AI education organizations.

The 2026 Regional Champions have been selected. These students will present their projects in Washington, D.C., in June.
