The Chattahoochee Nature Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental education, conservation, and the rehabilitation of native plants and wildlife, today announced a series of family-friendly summer events, including programming tied to Father’s Day and Independence Day.

As the organization approaches its 50th anniversary this June, the nature center invites members and first-time visitors to explore a season of unique programming and outdoor experiences along the Chattahoochee River in metro Atlanta, according to a release from the organization.

“With a variety of special events and of course, our 50th anniversary, this summer is the perfect time for members of our community and visitors to the area to join us,” said Tamara Kinmon, senior director of marketing, camp, and events at the Chattahoochee Nature Center. “Our team is proud to welcome visitors for engaging educational programs that highlight the area’s natural beauty and create unforgettable memories.”

The events include:

27th Annual Flying Colors Butterfly Festival — June 6-7
The Butterfly Festival serves as the official kickoff to the nature center’s Butterfly Encounter, one of its most popular educational offerings. Visitors can explore the grounds and meet pollinator experts, face painters, and games, along with an early opportunity to see live butterflies before the Butterfly Encounter opens to the public June 8. Tickets are $25 per person; children 2 and younger are admitted free. Tickets are available at chattnaturecenter.org.

48th Annual Possum Trot 10K and Fun Run — June 20
The Chattahoochee Nature Center will host its annual Peachtree Road Race qualifier, the Possum Trot 10K, with proceeds benefiting environmental education programs focused on the Chattahoochee River and its watershed. The scenic course winds along the river. The 10K begins at 7 a.m., followed by the start of the 1-mile fun run. Registration is open now.

50th Anniversary Celebrations — June 24-28
The nature center’s 50th birthday celebration begins Wednesday, June 24, with an evening of archery, canoeing and other outdoor activities. On Thursday, June 25, the community is invited to wear 1970s-inspired attire for Sunset Sips, featuring live music. The festivities conclude Sunday, June 28, with the 50th Anniversary Community Celebration, a free, family-friendly day of nostalgia and community programming.

Family Canoe Days — Throughout Summer
Throughout the summer, the nature center will offer recurring guided canoe programs on the Chattahoochee River for individuals, couples and families. Family Canoe Days are included with general admission and free for members. Special holiday excursions are scheduled for Memorial Day (May 25), Father’s Day (June 21), and Independence Day (July 4).
