School starts on August 3 (good or bad news, depending on if you’re a parent or student), which means this upcoming week marks the end of summer break. 🌳 The City of Tucker celebrated the grand opening of the Olivia Hayes Memorial Playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Fitzgerald Park and Sports Complex. The ADA-accessible playground honors the memory of Olivia Nicole Hayes, a Tucker Football League cheerleader who tragically lost her life in 2008 following a school bus accident.

Scraplanta hosts ‘trashion’ show
🧵 Members of Scraplanta’s Green Creatives Academy will present handcrafted designs in the Scraplanta Trashion Show on July 25.
The Green Creatives Academy (GCA) is a workshop series hosted by Scraplanta this summer focused on educating sewists and fiber artists on how to create more sustainable finished projects.
The arts non-profit hosted 18 workshops from May 16 to July 25, teaching intermediate artists skills like visible mending, sewing zippers, headpiece construction and projects like crochet disc belts and quilted tote bags. The program was supported by grant funding from the Molly Blank Fund.

Tucker says goodbye to Rise Baking
🍪 Rise Baking Company, a leading manufacturer for in-store bakeries and food service operators, has announced that it will be relocating its Innovation Center from Tucker to Atlanta after 20 years.
Rise’s Innovation Center will be moving to 575 Main Street NE in the Lindbergh neighborhood of Atlanta after its current lease in Tucker ends later this year. The facility will be located in Uptown Atlanta, a 47-acre mixed-use district with nearly a million square feet of office space and 120,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space.
Tucker hosts community events for city projects
🏡 The City of Tucker will host two public engagement events about projects coming to the city in the coming days.
Cooper Carry, the architectural and design firm behind the development of the Henderson Park Master Plan, hosted a second open house at City Hall on July 23. During the event, the firm worked to identify enhanced aesthetics and functionality of the park, options for underutilized portions of the park, opportunities to expand and improve existing amenities, and options for additional parking and pedestrian connectivity. The firm will also evaluate the potential for additional pickleball courts or a community center.
On July 30, the City of Tucker will host a public information meeting about the Idlewood Road Roundabouts project. Construction on the two roundabouts is scheduled to begin on August 10 and last 18 to 24 months.
