New head coach Josh Coffey will begin his Riverwood career following the departure of Shawn Cahill. The Raiders are coming off back-to-back 1-9 seasons and looking to right the ship under Coffey’s leadership. Coffey served as the offensive coordinator at Denmark and previously held coaching jobs at Union Grove, Lamar County, Chattahoochee and Spalding County. Coffey takes over the program, Since 1971, Riverwood has only advanced to the playoffs seven times with just two playoff victories (2001, 2019). In 2019, head coach Robert Edwards led the Raiders to the program’s only undefeated regular season, first region title and just second-ever playoff victory, a 17-14 win over Loganville. He led the program to a 9-2 record in 2021 and the team’s second region title. Since those high points, however, Riverwood has struggled through finishes of 2-9, 3-7 and two 1-9 seasons.
The trek toward coaching stability and culture development is key to building the success of the Riverwood team after last season’s disappointing finish, which included five scoreless games. At Denmark, Coffey helped organize an offense that scored 257 points in 2025 and 258 points in 2024.If that translates to Riverwood’s offense, the team could thrive. The team returns rising senior quarterback Aj Rahal, who went 69-of-167 passing for 772 yards and eight touchdowns, in addition to two touchdowns on the ground. On defense, Lawrence Levine returns after a team-high 98 total tackles in 2025.
