The Sandy Springs Police Department announced the arrest of a suspect Tuesday, Sept. 22, just hours into a continuing investigation into alleged arson activity at the Sonic on Roswell Road.
During the investigation, detectives found that business funds were taken and that the building’s security cameras had been disabled before the fire, according to the SSPD’s announcement.
Sandy Springs investigation
Initially, the Sandy Springs Fire Department responded to a fire at 5903 Roswell Road just before 5 a.m. The fast-food restaurant is between I-285 and Hammond Drive on State Route 9. The release does not mention fire damage to the restaurant, which opened in 2023.
After police were called, investigators identified Luis Javier Quintana as a suspect and obtained arrest and search warrants from a local judge. After officers located Quintana at his home, they took him into custody without incident. The announcement says “evidence connected to the incident was recovered.”
According to Fulton County Jail records, Quintana was booked on Sept. 22 and charged with second-degree burglary and first-degree arson, both felonies.
Beyond the announcement, little information is available about the investigation or arrest, including the suspect’s age and residence. Rough Draft Atlanta is requesting all documents related to the incident and arrest.
