Saturday, Oct. 3 — The Braves open the NL Division Series against the two-time defending champion Dodgers at 4 p.m. today in Los Angeles. Atlanta won five of six regular-season meetings this year (93.7 FM/680 AM; FOX).

🌧️ Scattered thunderstorms and temperatures in the low 80s today, with rain and a high of 70° tomorrow.  

MARKET UPDATE

📈 Stocks rose Friday after the economy added just 29,000 jobs in September, well below the 84,000 economists expected, as unemployment ticked up to 4.2%. The Nasdaq climbed 1.2%. The Dow rose 250 points to 51,176 but still fell about 1.3% on the week, while the S&P 500 finished the week slightly lower.

🎬 The merged Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery, home of Atlanta-born CNN, TBS, and Cartoon Network, will be renamed Skydance when the deal closes Tuesday.

🏫 The historic Lakewood Heights Elementary School building will be incorporated into a new mixed-use development. 

🗳️ Two Republicans on the State Election Board criticized their party’s plan to shuffle ballots at polling sites to fix a ballot secrecy flaw, citing new burdens on counties before early voting begins.

🎤 Live-K Karaoke, a national karaoke bar chain, signed a 10,512-square-foot lease for the former Dantanna’s space downtown.

🏳️‍🌈 Georgia Equality, the state’s largest LGBTQ+ advocacy organization, is hosting a meet-and-greet with endorsed candidates on Monday, Oct. 5.

🏵️ Dream forward Angel Reese was named WNBA Defensive Player of the Year after a record-breaking season. Atlanta hosts the New York Liberty in Game 1 of the semifinals tomorrow.

🎗️ Falcons legend Jeff Van Note died at 80. The six-time Pro Bowl center spent all 18 of his NFL seasons in Atlanta.

⚖️ New York Gov. Kathy Hochul appointed Attorney General Letitia James to review the case of a former Cornell student who alleges she was gang raped at a fraternity house in 2024.

📺 Tony Romo and CBS Sports have parted ways, a month after he pleaded no contest to a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.  

🎭 The Kennedy Center Honors will move to Capital One Arena on Mon., Dec. 7, after the center closed its riverfront venue amid a court fight over adding President Donald Trump’s name.
