Environment Sandy Springs is hosting a book signing on Nov. 7 with Charles Seabrook and Ann Litrel, co-authors of the acclaimed book, “35 Natural Wonders of Georgia to See Before You Die,” from 4-6 p.m. at the Abernathy Arts Center.
For years, Seabrook wrote about his own personal list of the state’s top 35 natural wonders in his weekly column for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Inspired by his writing, Litrel travelled to each site to capture them in sketches and watercolors.
The duo combined their words and paintings in their one-of-a-kind book, describing and illustrating Georgia’s rich repository of natural wonders.

One of the 35 natural wonders is the Palisades Unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. The East Palisades, including the Bamboo Forest, are in the southwestern corner of Sandy Springs, while the West Palisades are across the river in southeastern Cobb County.
“ESS is excited to introduce our community to Charles and Ann and to their splendid book, which was launched just a year ago,” President Jim Newbury said. “It captures the beauty and rich natural history of Georgia’s biological and geological treasures in a way that beckons us all to place these 35 natural wonders at the top of our own personal bucket lists.”
Environment Sandy Springs is a nonprofit with a mission to preserve nature for generations to come by protecting and restoring ecosystems today. Ticket sales support the nonprofit’s community programming.
ESS will partner with Bookmiser, an independent neighborhood bookstore in East Cobb, to offer copies of the book at the event. Those who buy a book and register online will receive a signed copy at the event, a photo opportunity with the authors, and priority seating for the presentation.
Janet Wells, vice president and development director of Environment Sandy Springs, said the nonprofit believes in being good neighbors to nature.
“With the sponsorship of COX Enterprises, we are happy to showcase this amazing book, so beautifully written and illustrated by two famed Georgia naturalists,” Well said. “We welcome our community to join us on Nov. 7 to discover Georgia’s waterfalls, mountains, rivers, forests, and coastlines and hope they will be inspired to make their own journeys to experience these marvels of nature in person.”
