1. ‘What We Carry Forward’ at The Sun ATL
VIA SKETCHBOOK, A WEEKLY NEWSLETTER ABOUT ART | SUBSCRIBE
☀️ The first thing visitors see at “What We Carry Forward,” on view at The Sun ATL through Nov. 21, is a woman in a long red-and-black robe.
She stands in a golden landscape beside a domed church while a small figure rides a high-wheeled bicycle near her feet. The painting, Carlos Solis’ “The Vision of Saint Charles” (2021), holds what the curator Eric Bomba-Ire calls “childhood and adulthood, memory and dream, spirituality and imagination.”
The question at the center of the show is one Bomba-Ire has lived with since he arrived in Atlanta in 1997: “What happens to what we inherit when we move between countries, cities, communities, even the everyday spaces we move through?”

4. For Atlanta college students, hackathons still offer room to build
🖥️ A weekend. A team. An idea that finally gets some undivided attention.
For 100 college students who gathered at Georgia Tech in October, that was the appeal of stepping away from their usual academic schedules and into a hackathon.
Organized by Women at the College of Computing (W@CC) at Georgia Tech, the Oct. 17–18 event brought together 25 teams with students from Georgia State, Kennesaw State, and Georgia Tech. Their challenge: Turn ideas spanning health care, finance, and AI agents into functioning prototypes.
