A Sandy Springs man killed his estranged wife and then himself, police said July 13.
Police said Jamal Mickens invited his wife, Irene, to his condo at 789 Hammond Drive about 6 p.m. on July 12. Their bodies were found about 10 a.m. July 13. Police said it appears Jamal Mickens shot his wife and then himself.
Police then started searching for the couple’s two children, aged 5 and 7. They found the children, Evan and Ava, safe and with their aunt in McDonough.
WSB-TV reported that Irene Mickens filed a family violence complaint against her husband in March 2009 and the complaint was dsimissed the following month. She filed for divorce in April, but the case was dismissed two months later, according to the television station.
