A broken water main left three feet of water standing on DeKalb Avenue near Fox Bros. BBQ this morning, April 17, causing traffic chaos and reports of hour-plus commutes into Downtown as cars were redirected onto side streets and McLendon Avenue.  DeKalb is closed in both directions between Moreland Avenue the Candler Park MARTA station until further notice. The road remained closed for the evening commute was expected to reopen after 8 p.m.

Fulton County Commission Chairman John H. Eaves will host the third in a series of Crime and Safety Summits for Midtown and Downtown on April 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Mark United Methodist Church 781 Peachtree St. The moderator will be Fulton County Public Information Officer Lyn Vaughn. Residents will get a chance to speak to a panel of officials from the Fulton County court system, Midtown Alliance, city council members and more.

The Atlanta Botanical Garden Associates are holding Garden Envy, an auction of rare plants and garden treasures, on April 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Day Hall on the ABG grounds in Midtown. The event raises funds for the Garden’s Jitsuko Johnson Plant Explorer Fund, which supports the procurement of rare plants for the garden’s collection.  Tickets for the event are available for $75 each at atlantabotanicalgarden.org.
