The retractable roof at Mercedes-Benz Stadium will remain in the closed position when the stadium opens on Aug. 26 for the first Atlanta Falcons exhibition game and its home-opener in September.  When the roof will open is unknown.

According to a report in the AJC,  Steve Cannon, the CEO of Falcons parent company AMB Group, said construction delays have the roof mechanization behind schedule.

Cannon said he could not provide specifics on when the first event might be played with the roof open, although he said it would be at some point during the Falcons’ and Atlanta United’s 2017 seasons.

Earlier today, preparations for the opening of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium reached another milestone as Georgia DOT crews replaced the 1-75 Southbound sign from “GA Dome” to “Mercedes-Benz Stadium,” officially making the stadium a destination to Atlanta commuters.

The sign is the first of 11 to be changed, as the DOT anticipates the replacements to be completed by stadium opening.
