Morgan Falls Dog Park in Sandy Springs will close for six to eight weeks beginning Sept. 30 as the city works to divert water runoff from a hill above the property.
A city contractor will begin excavation, grading, and tree removal to address the drainage issues.
Work on a drainage ditch up the hill from thepark is expected to solve most of the problem, city recreation and parks staff said during an open house on potential dog park improvements held in February. The drainage work must be completed before upgrades to the dog park can begin.
Upgrades include a dog wash station, drinking fountain, shade structures, site furnishings, bioswales, and dog agility equipment.
Dog parks have been identified as a top five facility priority in the city’s Recreation and Parks Master Plan.
Sandy Springs City Council budgeted $1.8 million for the upgrades as one of the capital projects in the FY2025 budget.
