Spruill Lane opened in Sandy Springs on Dec. 19, linking Mount Vernon Highway and Johnson Ferry Road between the Sandy Springs Library branch and Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church.
This roadway will improve traffic flow and enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians in the Mount Vernon Highway/Johnson Ferry Road corridor, according to a city news release.
With the opening of Spruill Lane, the traffic light at the Johnson Ferry Road and Mount Vernon intersection will be deactivated, permanently separating the roads.
The opening of Spruill Lane marks a milestone in the Mount Vernon Highway/Johnson Ferry Road improvements. This $18 million transportation sales project was designed to improve vehicular and pedestrian mobility, the release said. It aims to reduce congestion by alleviating the bottleneck conditions for east-west traffic on Johnson Ferry Road, Mount Vernon Highway, and north-south traffic on Roswell Road.
Mount Vernon Road and Johnson Ferry Road will be two-way operations when the project is completed, which is scheduled in 2026. For details on the project, visit spr.gs/JFMV.
Spruill Lane is named in honor of the Spruill family, who have deep roots in the Sandy Springs community dating back to the early 19th century, according to the release. The family’s contributions to the region range from land ownership that now encompasses Perimeter Mall to establishing the Spruill Center for the Arts.
“Spruill Lane honors the legacy of the Spruill family while providing much-needed relief for our residents, pedestrians, and commuters,” said Mayor Rusty Paul. “This project would not be possible without the continued support and patience of the community throughout the construction process.”
