Don’t say gay… again
Apr. 30 — U.S. House Republicans’ obsession with trans people continues on Capitol Hill, where new education bills would ban the use of a student’s preferred pronoun or name nationwide, while another bill similar to Florida’s “don’t say gay” legislation would restrict teachers from acknowledging a trans student’s identity. With wars, assassination attempts, a weakening economy, and a stagnant labor market, you’d think the GOP would have better things to do than strip people of their civil and human rights.
Here are a few more headlines:
✍️ Speaking of assassination attempts, Washington Blade reporter Joe Reberkenny has this first-person account of being at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night.
👏 The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to revive a Florida lawsuit that sought to punish a public school for respecting a transgender student’s identity.
⚖️ A federal appeals court vacated a lower court ruling that kept 17 incarcerated trans women from being moved into male prison populations, but the fight isn’t over yet.
📕 A Cobb County teacher who was fired for reading a children’s book that deals with gender identity to her fifth-grade class says she’s taking her case to the Georgia Supreme Court.
🏳️🌈 Capital B Atlanta has a report on Morehouse College students hosting a ballroom event to honor its LGBTQ+ graduates since the school wouldn’t host a lavender graduation ceremony.
🎤 Madonna made a surprise appearance over the weekend at West Hollywood gay bar The Abbey to perform two new songs from her forthcoming “Confessions II” album.
Don’t be a vibe kill…
