Summertime sounds in Norcross
Friday, June 26 — This year’s “Jazz in the Alley” series at Thrasher Park kicks off tomorrow, June 27, at 7:30 p.m., featuring local saxophonist Antoine Gibson. A visit to Gibson’s website has me envious of anyone within earshot of the park.
🎺 Jazz is something I’ve always enjoyed because it reminds me of being with family as a kid. Though my family lacks musical talent (and artistry, in general), it’s all my 90-year-old grandfather listens to while he’s driving. Keep your eyes peeled for a silver-haired man driving a convertible Lexus with jazz pumping through the speakers.
🦷 On a personal note, I spent five hours at the dentist’s office yesterday. I’m headed back this afternoon, and I am hoping to make it out in time to put together next week’s newsletter for y’all.
As always, here are some things to know:
📆 The city calendar is just about empty next week. The city has its July 3 fireworks show, and the Norcross Planning and Zoning Board is set to meet on July 1 at 6:30 p.m. to make recommendations to the city council related to downtown parking policies.
⚽ If you’re headed south for a FIFA World Cup watch party over the next few weeks, check our Atlanta guide for the latest on fan fests, watch parties, and food deals.
Let’s get into some stories,

State Rep. Ruwa Romman shares updates on Georgia’s 7th Senate District
🫏 State Rep. Ruwa Romman (D-Duluth) stopped by downtown Norcross on June 24 to share the latest updates after this month’s special legislative session and answer constituents’ questions about her run for Georgia’s 7th Senate District.
Romman, who currently represents the state’s 97th House District, is fresh off a Democratic runoff victory over Rahul Garabadu for one of Gwinnett County’s state Senate districts.
“This is one of the few places where I’ve noticed people come from all over the political spectrum,” Romman said about Norcross. “You’ve got center, right, left, you name it.”
