The Roberts Drive closure
โ ๏ธย A section of Roberts Drive at Roswell Road in north Sandy Springs is shut down after an overnight crash on July 14 that affected a fire hydrant near the State Route 9 bridge over the Chattahoochee River.
Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul said the Atlanta Watershed Management Department is responsible for repairs to the fire hydrant and water main at the crash site and plans to have the roadway restored by Saturday morning.
โ[An overnight accident] โฆ destroyed a fire hydrant and created a severe flooding situation that undermined the roadway at that intersection,โ Paul wroteย on Facebook. โIt is totally impassible and a significant section of the roadway must be rebuilt.โ

Sandy Springs launches SUP Showdown
๐ฆ ย Sandy Springs is inviting paddlers from across the Southeast to compete in the inaugural Sandy Springs SUP Showdown on Saturday, Aug. 15, at Morgan Falls Overlook Park.
City officials sayย theย event aims toย establishย a new tradition for paddleboarding enthusiasts while introducing more residents and visitors to the cityโs vibrant outdoor recreation opportunities along the Chattahoochee River.
โThe exciting new event will showcase the natural beauty of the Chattahoochee River while highlighting the growing popularity of stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) and adaptive paddle sports,โ the cityโs announcement said. โWith support from Catalyst Sports for adaptive kayak athletes, the Sandy Springs SUP Showdown celebrates competition, accessibility, and the spirit of the water.โ

Back-to-School events
๐ย Sandy Springs announced its upcoming back-to-school youth programming, kicking off in early August with the cityโs annual National Night Outย and the first Movie by Moonlight showing.
At the cityโsย Back to School Bashย on Tuesday, Aug. 4,ย public safety personnel from all levels of government will gather around the City Green forย aย National Night Outย event. The Sandy Springs Police, Sandy Springs Fire, and Recreation and Parks departments pitch in to put on the annual celebration, promoting strong community-police relationships while offering a fun and engaging evening for families.
๐ฟย The city also announced three Movie by Moonlight events beginning with โThe Lizzie McGuire Movieโ (2003) on Friday, Aug. 7.ย
