Artist brings junk journaling workshops to Tucker

🗑️ When Julie Fordham, a Tucker-based painter and the president of the Tucker Arts Alliance, began her foray into art, she was 15. She did what she called “sketchbook art,” combining collage and writing to create pieces of art in her journal.

Today, she’s bringing the accessible and experimental art form, now known as junk journaling, to Tucker with a weekly workshop at Mama Debbie’s Art Emporium.

Every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., Fordham hosts Drunk Journaling, an evening dedicated to the art of junk journaling. Attendees enjoy a themed cocktail and two hours to work on their projects with provided materials.

✂️ Here is more about Julie and the workshop.

Black Dog Books hosts prison book drive through November

📚 Throughout the month of November, Tucker’s newest bookstore Black Dog Books hosts its first annual Booksgiving, an initiative to donate books to incarcerated people.

Beginning Sunday, Nov. 1, customers can drop off books at Black Dog Books to donate to Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) libraries. GDC libraries provide books that inspire, educate, and broaden the perspectives of both prison staff and inmates. GDC libraries support academic and vocational education programs, which have been shown to reduce recidivism, and include a fully integrated Law Library for offender research of legal information.
