The Sandy Springs Farmers Market will begin its first season May 1. Organizer Andy Bauman confirmed the date in an April 28 e-mail.

“Please keep your fingers crossed for good weather – we’ll be open rain or shine!” said Bauman, who is organizing the market with Jeffrey Langfelder.

The two residents plan to hold the market every Saturday in the parking lot of the former Target store at the corner of Sandy Springs Circle and Johnson Ferry Road. It will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

On opening day, the market will feature about 30 vendors who will offer fresh produce, dairy products, breads and specialty foods, Bauman said.

A grand opening will be held May 15, he said. Bauman added the market will feature chef demonstrations, entertainment and educational events throughout the season.

“We want the Sandy Springs Farmers Market to become a vibrant, active city-centered gathering place for the city of Sandy Springs,” Bauman and Langfelder said in a release. “We are grateful to have the support of the city of Sandy Springs.”

Fidelity Bank is the market’s presenting sponsor.
