The International Women’s Forum of Georgia will celebrate International Women’s Day on March 1 with a half-day program on happiness and will pay homage to founding member former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

The chapter’s 5th annual IWD event, “Together we Thrive: The Impact and Effects of Happiness on Women’s Leadership and Equity,” will be hosted by Georgia-Pacific, 133 Peachtree St., from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday.

“The program will take a global look at what it means to be happy through different cultural lenses; to the ways happiness and life satisfaction — and the challenges to achieve them — tie to policy, leadership and your definition of success,” said Susan O’Farrell, 2024 IWD co-chair, in a press release. “We’ll explore it all and might just spread a little joy while we’re at it!”

IWD Co-chair Amy Glennon said in the release that she’s glad that IWF is delving into the topic of happiness, and its impact on women and leadership. “The notion of happiness can get pushed aside — we’re too busy … It’s not important right now … the world is too messy. But I’m eager to hear what that could cost us and what we might want to do about it.”

Featured speakers will include:

Robert Waldinger, MD, Professor of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School; Director of the Harvard Study of Adult Development, Massachusetts General Hospital and Cofounder, Lifespan Research Foundation

Dr. Kathleen Hall, the founder and CEO of Mindful Living Network and The Stress Institute

Janet Wells, Professional Actress and Comedian in Film, Television, Radio, and Stage; and Comedy Improv Instructor

Saleemah Abdul-Ghafur, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Director, Chief of Staff;

Dr. Helene Gayle, President of Spelman College

The International Women’s Day program is one of the Georgia chapter’s signature events and the only one where it invites external guests.
