School’s out!

Friday, May 29 — For us non-teaching adults, the summer season doesn’t start until June. But yesterday was the last day of school in DeKalb County, which means summer break is officially underway. If you missed it, registration is still open for some of the summer camps offered by Tucker’s arts organizations.

We’ve got some exciting news this week about new developments coming to Tucker, plus an award-winning resident! But first, some quick updates:

💧 The pool at Kelly Cofer Park is officially open, and the adult Aqua Fit Water Aerobics program kicks off on Mon., June 1, at 9 a.m.

🍺 Tucker Brewing Company hosts the Beer Me 5K tomorrow. The race begins and ends at the brewery, and the after-party includes live music, cold plunges, yard games, and local vendors. Registration is still open for $50.

🛹 Mama Debbie’s Art Emporium has extended the deadline for the skateboard deck art show. Submissions will be accepted until June 13, and the gallery show opens on June 27.

🌳 Cooper Carry will host a two-day open house at Tucker City Hall next Friday and Saturday to present ideas about the Henderson Park master plan. Residents are invited to drop by during the day to ask questions, observe the design process, review precedent imagery and sketches, and share feedback.

7 Brew heads to city council

☕ Plans for a 7 Brew in downtown Tucker will be presented to the City Council in June. The Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of the special land-use permit for the drive-thru coffee shop.

During an April meeting, members of the commission voted to defer the requests for rezoning, a Special Land Use Permit, and concurrent variance to the plan because of inconsistencies with the proposed design and the downtown Tucker character area.

During the commission meeting on May 21, Julie Sellers, managing partner with land use litigation firm Dillard Sellers, presented a new architectural design with different materials and a different roof line. The design, which was recommended for approval by the commission, will closely resemble the plan for the 7 Brew coming to Sandy Plains Road in Marietta.

Personal warehouses come to Tucker

🏗️ A new development coming to Tucker this year will provide residents and business owners looking for more space to grow.

The Catalyst at Tucker, a first-of-its-kind project from Georgia-based developer Carmichael Development, brings 41 self-storage units to Lawrenceville Highway.

Each unit is designed to work for an individual’s needs: it can be a garage for classic cars, boats, and other large vehicles that don’t fit in the home garage or are restricted by HOA rules, or it can be an office to grow a start-up or a side hustle.
